a commentary on indian
craft, culture and community.

HELLO

I’m Ashwathi, and I’m obsessed with all things Indian.
I use this space to talk about Indian craft, culture, and communitY.

ASHWATHI
NAREN

As a queer South Indian with Tamil-Malayali roots who grew up in Chennai and made a home in New York, I have spent much of my life navigating the dichotomy of east and west, queerness and social stigma, and the joys and pains of being brown – Trying to give voice to each facet of myself.

Fashion is one of the ways in which I have found comfort in doing so.

This lifelong journey has made me passionate about exploring the intersections of identity and self-expression through style.

With fashion and communications degrees from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) New York and the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) India, my professional background is rooted in creative consultancy focused on product strategy and business development. I bring a diverse skillset that includes data and trend analysis, in-depth knowledge of market and consumer intelligence, fashion, and retail trends across multiple industries and categories of business.

Stick around if you’re interested in hearing my thoughts, ramblings, unsolicited opinions and screams into the void.
